Islands Petroleum and its shareholder companies Gazelle Agencies Ltd and Gazelle Transport Ltd were taken over in 1980 by the present owner, Paul Bluett, as a transport operator. Islands Petroleum took over Mobil's Loloho depot in Bougainville in 1985, Rabaul in 1988, Kimbe in 1989, Kavieng in 1990, Buka in 1991 and, Alotau, Popondetta and Oro Bay in 2005.

In 2005 Islands Petroleum purchased the 7 Mobil depots and now employs around 150 staff nationwide.

Currently Islands Petroleum distribute fuel in 7 locations throughout PNG and have recently been appointed exclusive distributors of Mobil lubricants nationwide. Islands Petroleum are now the largest nationally owned fuel distributorship in Papua New Guinea. Islands Petroleum is continuing to develop into areas of opportunity in the New Guinea Islands region and beyond and with a net worth in excess of 40 million Kina, Islands Petroleum is a true Papua New Guinean business success story.
